As you know, e-liquids are what produce the vapor in electronic cigarettes. They come in a variety of flavors, sizes and prices, and each one offers a different experience. How then to choose the right one? To do this, you need to know what e-liquids are made of. Only then can you buy the products that offer you the most pleasant experience, and even make your own mixtures.
What is the composition of the e-liquids?
Although this is variable, most e-liquids are made up of the following substances:
- Propylene glycol (PG)
- Vegetable Glycerin (GV)
- Nicotine
- Aromas / flavors
- Ethanol
Let’s see below what each one consists of, what they are for and what their effects are on vaping liquids.
Propylene glycol (PG)
It can be said that propylene glycol is the main ingredient in e- liquids , although it is not present in some. It is a colorless, odorless and tasteless chemical substance that, when heated, gives off very good clouds of vapour. It also dilutes nicotine and aromas very well, which produces a very strong flavor. But its greatest attraction is, without a doubt, the throat hit it offers, very similar to that of cigars.
Although it is safe for the body, you should not consume it in high concentrations , as it can cause throat irritation, dry mouth, rashes and other discomforts, especially in people with digestive and respiratory conditions.
Vegetable Glycerin (GV)
Vegetable glycerin, also called liquid glycerin in vaping, is an alcohol extracted from coconut and palm oil. It also lacks color and odour, but it has a sweetish taste and is thicker than propylene glycol (the latter means that it takes less time to damage the resistances). The clouds of vapor produced by liquid glycerin are smaller, and it does not distribute aromas and nicotine as well, so the throat hit is minimal.
All in all, it is recommended for its safety, since being a 100% natural substance it has no harmful effects on the body. Hence, the ideal ratio of liquid glycerin for the body is 0 PG / 100 VG. But bases of 20 PG / 80 VG, 25 PG / 75 VG and other proportions with a high content of vegetable glycerin are also valid.
Nicotine
Nicotine vaping liquids are recommended to help detox smokers who want to quit, either in free base or nicotine salt form.
It can also be used by those who have never touched one, but are aware that it is a highly addictive substance . That’s not to mention other negative effects of nicotine namely:
- increases heart rate and blood pressure
- narrow capillaries and blood vessels
- contributes to stress
Among others that make it not recommended if you want to preserve your physical and mental health.
Aromas / flavors
The aromas and flavors of e-cigs are what make the difference. While the only flavor and smell possible in a regular cigarette is tobacco, e-cigarettes provide unparalleled variety.
We can find coffee , fruit , tropical and energy drinks , liqueurs , nuts , creams , etc. And also tobacco , for those who like to simulate the smoking experience as much as possible.
Ethanol
This is the least common substance in e-liquids , and we only see it in a few brands. They are added to preserve their properties for longer, almost always in concentrations below 5%.
